Hi, from Shawna

Hi there neighbor! I’m the city council representative for District Two of Arvada, Colorado. After finishing my enlistment in the United States Army, I chose to live in Arvada because of my family's deep Colorado roots. As a working mom, I’m thankful for what Arvada gives my family: supportive community, beautiful parks, and Arva-Pride - the name of this weekly newsletter.

Decisions made by city council in the next few years will chart our city’s course for decades. With 20 years of service in non-profit leadership, pro-union negotiations, and military service I'm winning the progress we need in office. My priority is making Arvada work for you! What I’m working on for you in Arvada

Better Sidewalks

The city is exploring a cost-sharing program to help improve sidewalks across our city to make our neighborhoods safer and more accessible, without placing the full burden on residents

Affordable Homes For Our Workers

The Housing Advisory Committee is looking at creative solutions to support employee and workforce housing because the people who keep Arvada running should be able to live here, too.

Senior Focused Housing Options

Council is advocating for housing tailored to our senior residents, which can help open up family homes for younger generations while allowing older adults to stay in the community they love.

Regional Homelessness Solutions

Council is actively engaging with Jefferson County and stakeholders to explore long-term, regional shelter solutions for our unhoused neighbors because everyone deserves dignity and safety as well as rapid response for severe weather. I advocate for housing first policies as these are shown to be the most cost-effective.

Honoring Lives Lost To Opioids

I’m working on meaningful ways to commemorate those in our community who have died from opioid overdoses, bringing awareness and compassion to a heartbreaking crisis.

Welcoming All Of Our Residents

I’m committed to making sure every Arvadan feels safe—regardless of their citizenship status, religious heritage, or ethnicity. Our community is stronger when everyone feels seen, valued, and protected.

A Safer, More Welcoming Olde Town

Olde Town is the heart of Arvada, and we’re taking steps to enhance safety and security in the area so it remains a vibrant, enjoyable space for all to gather.

Arvada Center Advocate

One of the key amenities of Arvada is the art center which is the best in our region and give opportunities to our families to grow and learn with all of their senses. I am an advocate for public support of our center to continue delivering this meaningful service and economic boon to our city.
