Hey Neighbor!
Happy Father’s Day to my dad Rusty, who was born in Aurora but relocated to Nebraska after his military service ended at Offutt Air Force base. Thanks, dads, for all you do!

Wild Moose Chase 🫎
On May 29th, the Arvada Animal Management Office worked with residents to find and relocate a moose on the loose. The three year old female was found by officials at 79th and Simms with Arvadan residents’ help!
Powwow, Summerfest, and Bulky Item Drop Off: busy day on June 7th! 🤩
The Powwow at the Arvada Center brought in hundreds of people for this all day summer celebration of Indigenous cultures. Congrats to the Arvada Center, the Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce, and Tatanka Ska Ventures for an amazing event!
Summerfest at the Ralston Addition Park was also a success, with over 2,400 participants. Congrats to our Vibrant Communities and Neighborhood teams for this fantastic event that included live music, a pet swimsuit competition, and community fundraising.
The Bulky Item Drop Off event brought together more than 60 city employees to serve 1,420 vehicles - all Arvada residents - with their bulky items. Arvadans dropped off 126 tons of materials, plus 424 mattresses that will be recycled. Don’t miss the next one on Saturday, August 16th.

June 17th – Business Meeting📝
At the last council meeting we received an update on the city’s 10 year budget from the Chief Financial Officer, Bryan Archer. Of note were the higher than anticipated income from sales tax and the higher expenses expected for providing healthcare for Arvada City employees.
This upcoming meeting we’ll have a resolution proclaiming Juneteenth, a resolution on school resource officers with Jefferson County Schools to confirm our intergovernmental agreement, and an updated agreement to pass concerning solid waste hauling.
On June 24th, there will be no meeting as some council members are traveling to attend the Colorado Municipal League conference.

🪧 Speak Up!
There were several rallies today in Colorado, and the No Kings rally in Arvada was well attended (although I did receive an email from a resident asking if I could please “cancel” the Arvada rally). There was also a No Kings rally in Denver, and an ICE out of Colorado rally. It’s more important than ever to show up for our strong democracy. Did you see a sign at a rally you liked? Tell me about it!
As we get into our summer vacation season, this email will go down to going out twice a month instead of weekly to keep you informed of what’s going on in Arvada. Thanks for reading and feel free to reply to this email as I’d love to hear from you.
