Bulky Item Event🛢️
A happy note from the City Manager: The City’s series of Bulky Item events kicked off on Saturday, April 25th, with a great turnout. We had 2,135 residents participate, and the dropped off 673 mattresses (which will be recycled into carpet padding) and approximately 164 tons of trash (in 116 roll-offs). For context, this is the highest number of participants who could be verified as Arvada residents. We also piloted a metal recycling program at this event, and residents dropped off approximately 12 tons of scrap metal (in six roll-offs). The success of these events is due to the outstanding efforts of all who participated and worked hard to make them possible.

Bulldog Bustle 🐶
In support of Arvada High School’s Cross Country and Family Resource programs Councilmembers participated in the Bulldog Bustle, a 5k fun run through Arvada on May 2nd. It was a wonderful day and amazing to see all the students and supporters!
Olde Town Updates May 11-22 (and stop by on Second Saturday, I’ll be there!) 🥳
A note from the city team: beginning May 11th City teams and contractors will be performing street maintenance in the Olde Town pedestrian closure areas. Parklets will be cleared and stored, the old street murals will be removed, streets will be prepared, cleaned, and crack and seal slurry will be performed. Finally, parklets will be reinstalled, and where possible, pavers will be repaired. Work is anticipated to be completed in two weeks by May 22nd.
But before then, stop by Olde Town on the second Saturday May 9th! I’ll be there starting at 4pm serving at the Kiwanis beverage tent to raise funds for all the great programming that Kiwanis supports for kids.

🏛 What’s Up at Council
Adams County - Open Space Award and Graffiti success 🚵
Thanks to the Adams County Open Space funds, Arvada received over $100k to improve our open spaces on the east side of town. I was glad to accept the award along with Darin Delay, Arvada’s Parks and Urban Design Manager. The keynote was about our drought and there is a webinar on May 14 at 6pm, click here to register.
Adams County Graffiti Removal - The city manager has a great update on this: from the time of Council’s approval of the IGA with Adams County until now, the Adams County graffiti removal team has been hard at work to remove the graffiti from the Arvada section of Adams County. The city team met with the Adams County graffiti team last week and they have done a great job in their initial sweeps and graffiti removal. Here is the graffiti cleaned map, and if you zoom into the Arvada portion of the map, you can see where clean-up has occurred. This is a great win for the Adams County portion of the Arvada community, and we will be working with the graffiti team to learn how we can replicate this program throughout the City.
Council Meetings - sidewalk cost sharing is back! 🚧
I’m excited to share that at the latest city council meeting we brought back the sidewalk cost share program! It’s been improved in that “eligible households at or below 80% of current Denver Metro HUD income limits may receive 100% financial assistance, while eligible households above 80% of current Denver Metro HUD income limits may receive 50% financial assistance.” This has been a priority of mine since I was elected to council, and I’m very pleased with this policy that will help folks from all economic backgrounds be able to keep our sidewalks safe and accessible for anyone in Arvada.
