June 10 – Workshop on 10 Year Budget Forecast 📝
At 6pm we’ll have a presentation from the city’s Financial Officer about the city’s fiscal health and the 10 year budget forecast. On June 3rd, there were many comments from the community about Arvada joining a lawsuit against the state about home rule and support for affordable housing. The council also welcomed two new relief judges, pushed out approval for a new waste fee schedule to June 17th, and welcomed public discussion on intergovernmental agreements.

Last week municipalities gathered with Jefferson county commissioners for a special forum on homelessness. It was a step towards a regional strategic approach towards caring for vulnerable people in our communities while improving neighborhood safety. The county spends about $3 million annually on eviction prevention, another $3 million on permanent supportive housing, and about $660,000 on direct intervention for families experiencing homelessness. The county estimates that for the severe weather season, it will cost about $1.5 million collectively to ensure that the 250-400 people who need help during severe and extreme weather will have access to shelter. Most municipalities expressed a willingness to work cooperatively on funding and care. Thank your JeffCo Commissioners for putting together the forum and coming to the table with possible solutions on this important issue: Rachel Zenzinger, Lesley Dahlkemper, and Andy Kerr - click here for the link to the contact form.
