Supporting Affordable Housing 🏘️
Arvada encourages higher density in appropriate areas while respecting the character of local neighborhoods and the desires of residents. The City welcomes and develops affordable housing in Arvada by considering reduced parking, a robust transit system, additional building height, and participating as a partner in affordable housing projects.
As a member of the Housing Advisory Committee, I’m working with our city team and residents to ensure that we are adopting proven policies to make sure Arvada is a great place for our families to live and thrive. For details of what the Housing Advisory Committee is working to enact, check out our Housing Strategic Plan which was adopted by council last year: https://www.arvadaco.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4233/Final-Arvada-Housing-Strategic-Plan-pdf
The following are examples of how Arvada is implementing the affordable housing strategies identified in the Arvada Housing Strategic Plan:
1) Habitat for Humanity Griffith Station Development (located at 52nd and Carr Street) - the Arvada Housing Authority donated the land to Habitat for development and used Community Development Block Grant funds to pay the water tap fees for the development.
2) Marshall Pointe Apartments - The City applied for and received a $2 million grant to assist with the payment of water tap fees; the Arvada Housing Authority offered a loan of $850,000 for construction costs, a Special Limited Partnership to allow the exemption of property and sales tax and eight Housing Choice Vouchers to assist with the financing.
3) Marshall Street Landing - The Arvada Housing Authority granted $200,000 to the development.
4) Legacy Senior Residences - The Arvada Housing Authority loaned $840,000; participated in a Special Limited Partnership to offer property and sales tax exemption and offered eight Housing Choice Vouchers to assist with the financing.
Housing continues to be an evolving issue, and I’m happy to listen to your questions and concerns as we work together to continue improving our beautiful community.

🏛 What’s Up at Council
June 3 – Study Session, Relief Judge, Waste Hauling, and IGAs 📝
At 4pm we’ll have a study session on 64th Avenue Sub-Area Planning. At the 6pm business meeting we’ll be appointing a new relief judge, locking in the low inflation rate for our waste hauling services, and speeding up how the city adopts intergovernmental agreements.
You can review past business meetings and sessions, here:

🙋♀️ Speak up!
At city council business meetings, members of the public have two opportunities to speak; 3 minutes before the business agenda starts or for 5 minutes after the agenda. Council cannot directly respond but encourages hearing from our residents about issues that are important to them. Residents must attend in person, however, they can also submit comments to our county clerk which is shared with the council prior to the meeting. It’s easy to sign up outside of council chambers before council starts at 6pm. More information about speaking to council can be found here: https://www.arvadaco.gov/161/City-Council-Meetings
